PIPE & STEEL FITTING
A pipe fitter is a tradesperson who installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical piping systems. They work on a variety of piping systems, including: Heating and cooling systems, High-pressure transport systems, Oil and chemical systems, and Natural gas systems.
Pipe fitters typically start as apprentices or helpers. They perform a variety of tasks, including:
- Planning jobs based on engineering designs
- Making or modifying parts in a workshop
- Assembling components for installation
- Installing and joining pipework using welding and bolting methods
- Performing routine inspections and maintenance
- Finding and fixing faults
- Removing old pipework and fittings safely
- Reading design specifications to cut and weld pipes
- Laying pipework
